Eat Healthy Food
Weight loss (or gain) is a simple function of calories gained minus calories burned. To lose weight you must burn more calories than you gain from eating food. This means that a good diet is the cornerstone of weight loss. Simply put, without a good diet it's impossible to lose weight, because no matter how much time you spent working out, you can always ruin those results with a big mac and a large cup of soda.
Ideally you would want to get to the point where you eat fruits, vegetables, lean meets, seeds, nuts and none bottom feeder fish, and don't consume any processed foods. But since that is just too hard for most people and trying to do it will likely cause you to give up, it's better to take some small steps. For example, why not replace a bag of chips at launch with a banana or a yogurt? Try to cut out as much soda as you can (diet or normal) Get a salad from McDonald's instead of french fries etc etc. Those are small steps but you'd be surprised how much difference they can make when combined.
Exercise Often
Looking at the weight loss formula I mentioned earlier, you'll see that the other ingredient to losing weight is calories burned. You body will burn a certain amount of calories even if you don't do anything, but obviously doing exercise would increase the amount of calories burned. So by working out you can improve the speed at which you lose weight. Not all exercise are created equal, some will give better results than others. However since this is an article and not a book, I'll just say that working out at all is better than sitting on a couch. So just do some exercise.
Take Supplements
Weight loss supplements combined with a good diet and exercise program can produce some very good weight loss results. It's just that a lot of people will use those supplements alone, not see much results and decide that they don't work. One of the more common mistakes people make when it comes to weight loss. They are called weight loss supplements and not weight loss programs for a reason, they are designed to supplement one's weight loss program, not replace it.
